Notes:

Sometimes I feel torn as a style blogger when I post my “professional attire” because my job is so not typical or consistent. What I’m wearing above is definitely a look that, by most office standards, would be too casual. But my position as a hands-on library director often requires fashion that is approachable, practical and down-to-earth. The kinds of fun trends that look awesome on blogs - colorblocking, pattern mixing, crazy nail art - would not translate well to a public library. I feel like I’d have to do too much explaining to library customers or that I’d receive disapproving, questioning glances, both of which would take away from service. I still try to keep my style fun and “me,” but definitely tone it down.

I wore this prarie skirt and denim jacket to meet with some very important clients: over 30 preschoolers. I led a storytime and did two rounds of crafts, hastily snapping these pics on my lunch break. The day before I donned my black skinny jeans, a t-shirt and boots because I was helping out with a terrarium workshop (read: dirt). So if you’re ever on my blog and all like “Why did she wear that to work???” know that I was likely doing non paper-pushing tasks like making glittery crafts, moving stacks of book donations, showing kids how to play bocce ball in 85-degree weather or replacing toilet paper in the bathroom stalls. It’s all in a day’s work :)
